Programme
Slovenian Philharmonic Choir
Nele Erastus, conductor
Two composers, two worlds, two exceptional artists with a special fondness for choral music. They are brought together by Estonian conductor Nele Erastus, winner of the international conducting competition in Turin in 2022, where she performed in the final with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir. She perfected her conducting career at the State Conservatory of Music in Lyon, where she focused intensively on the music of Francis Poulenc. The latter’s secular cantata Figure humaine, which was composed during the Second World War, is a monumental call for peace and freedom.
Although Pärt’s Sieben Magnificat-Antiphonen was composed in the tintinnabuli style, each section has its own integral form and individual character, which is why they are sometimes performed as separate contrasting miniatures. And I heard a voice is based on excerpts from the Book of Revelation translated into Estonian, Pärt’s native language, which rarely finds artistic expression in the composer’s works, while Da pacem Domine was composed as a motet in the spirit of Renaissance music using the cantus firmus technique. Pärt did not specify the exact ensemble of performers, nor the set of notes, so multiple versions of the composition exist.
There will be a post-concert gathering of the audience with the performers accompanied by a selection of top-quality Slovenian wines
