ORCHESTRAL VACANCIES
The Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra is seeking a highly qualified musician for the position of:
DEPUTY LEADER – DOUBLE BASSIST (M/F)
Auditions will be held at the Marjan Kozina Concert Hall, Slovenian Philharmonics Building (Kongresni trg 10, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia) on Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, commencing at 1.30 pm.
About the position:
Full-time Employment with 5 month probationary period.
Job requirements:
- bachelor’s degree (university level degree in music – previous program) or master’s degree (Bologna second level degree in music)*
- Slovene language proficiency**
- foreign language proficiency (English or German or French or Spanish or Russian)
- Minimum of six months’ relevant work experience
- Successful completion of the audition
*Please note that if a candidate does not meet the educational requirements for the position, an exceptionally successful audition may be considered as a compensatory factor for the required degree, on an exceptional basis.
**If a candidate does not speak Slovene, an exceptionally successful audition may, as an exception, compensate for the required language proficiency.

- CV/résumé (including mailing address, phone number and email address),
- copy of one’s degree diploma/certificate validating the level of education completed,
- copy of an ID,
- language certificate / proof of foreign language proficiency.

The Slovenian Philharmonic will be accepting applications through August 14th, 2024.
Résumés will be reviewed after submission, and all applicants will be notified of their invitation to attend the audition by email no later than August 17th, 2024.
Piano accompaniment will be provided.
Please note that travel and accommodation expenses will not be reimbursed.
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
1st round
- Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf – Concerto No.2 in E major for Double Bass and Orchestra, 1st and 2nd movement (with cadenza)
or
- Jan Křtitel Vaňhal: Double Bass Concerto in D Major, 1st and 2nd movement (with cadenza)
2nd round
Romantic period Concerto by one’s own choice – 1st movement (with cadenza).
3rd round – orchestral excerpts (will be provided and marked)
- Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 5, 2nd and 3rd movement
- Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 9, 4th movement
- Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 3, 3rd movement
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony no. 40, 1st movement
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: The Magic Flute – overture
- Franz Schubert: Symphony no. 8, 3rd movement
- Richard Strauss: Ein Heldenleben
- Gustav Mahler: Symphony no. 1 in D Major, 3rd movement
- Igor Stravinski: Pulcinella
- Joseph Haydn: Symphony no. 31, 4th movement – Variation 7
Monthly salary est. starting at 2.030,17 EUR gross.
CHOIR
Audition for soloists – soprano, alto, tenor, bass
The Choir of the Slovenian Philharmonic announces auditions for soloists (soprano, alto, tenor, bass).
Candidates between the ages of 19 and 26 can apply for the audition. Invitations to participate will be sent on the basis of a video recording, which will be evaluated by the conductor Stephen Layton and the expert committee.
Audition programme:
W.A. Mozart: Requiem, K. 626 (solo parts)
The solo singing audition will take place on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., while the ensemble singing audition will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
The auditions will be held in the Marjan Kozina Hall of the Slovenian Philharmonic.
The soloists selected at the audition will perform Mozart’s Requiem at the concert on Friday, May 23, 2025, with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra under the direction of Stephen Layton.
