Opening Concert of the New Season
Program
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir
Philipp von Steinaecker conductor
You are cordially invited to the opening concert of the Slovenian Philharmonic’s new season. In the first part, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir will present the magnificent sixteen-part work of art Two Songs, Op. 34 by German composer and conductor Richard Strauss, a choral work that almost conveys listeners to the world of symphonic music. It was created at the time when the composer was writing his greatest symphonic poems, so the similarity in the shaping of the material should not be overlooked. In the second part of the concert, the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Strauss’s tenth and last symphonic poem, An Alpine Symphony, Op. 64. The work is composed in one movement comprising twenty-two episodes whose titles are descriptions of individual stations on a journey through the beautiful Alpine world.
