Death as the end? Full stop? Or as a beginning and a semicolon?
The programme deals with this topic in music and shows how differently composers have approached the question of death. For Bach, death represents sweet and long-awaited redemption. Mäntyjärvi and Cornelius reflect on legacy and memory, while for Gallus and Jennefelt it is stark proof of the injustice and inequality in today’s world. Fissinger once again reconciles us with death, which he regards as a passage to light and peace. The programme is rounded off with a choral arrangement of Dvořák’s Symphony “From the New World”. Despite leaving a “semicolon feeling” and uncertainty, it nonetheless promises that a new and better world awaits us.
There will be a post-concert gathering of the audience with the performers accompanied by a selection
