To oneself, to the unknown / MVP 6 22/23
Programme
Slovenian Philharmonic Choir
Peter Dijkstra, conductor
Tomaž Sevšek, organ
The concert programme captures the complexity of human fears. In Cantos sagrados, the composer engages with the so-called theology of liberation that arose from the difficult social conditions on the South American continent. In engaging with the world, its many challenges – including overcoming oneself and perhaps one’s excessive self-criticism – can be a major obstacle on the way to achieving any goal. Frank Martin’s Mass for Double Choir lay in a drawer for almost forty years. The composer finally handed it over to his publisher just ten years before his death, and today it is one of the most popular choral works in the repertoire.
