Through the Prism of Pisendel
Program
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Shunske Sato conductor
In 2027, the 12th Philharmonic Festival of Baroque Music promises three rich concert evenings, artistically conceived by one of the most original violinists of our time, Shunke Sato. The eternally beautiful and opulent music of the Baroque is perfect for the winter. What could be more enjoyable than spending January evenings at the Baroque concerts of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir? The first festival concert focuses on violinist Johann Georg Pisendel, who enriched the activities of the Dresden Chapel in the eighteenth century with the works of his friends, Vivaldi, Handel and Telemann. The second concert invites you to Rome. In the Baroque era, the eternal city was overflowing with magnificent music intended for brilliant soloists and large Baroque orchestras. After being absent from the Slovenian Philharmonic several decades, the third concert revives Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion, a work that has appealed to listeners for centuries with its immense expressive power.
