The Power of Inner Silence / NOW 2
Programme
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Tito Ceccherini, conductor
Daishin Kashimoto, violin
In the centre of the concert, surrounded by the waves of the oceans, is a violin concerto entitled Prayer by the eminent Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa, performed by the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, Daishin Kashimoto. This will be followed by a composition by their compatriot Tōru Takemitsu.
“In this violin concerto, I see the soloist as a shaman and the orchestra in the background as the universe, as nature, reaching into and through the shaman himself. The shaman sings to the universe, which either responds to or resists him. The songs are exchanged and the prayer gradually deepens. Eventually, the shaman becomes one with the universe and nature.” (Toshio Hosokawa)
