When we think of French music, it is all too often the stereotypical sonority of impressionism that comes to mind. Although it is true that the works of French composers from the Baroque to the present day reflect a wealth of colours, they also contain countless shifting moods, rich rhythmic diversity and masterful compositional construction. We will have an opportunity to admire all of this in selected works by Fauré, Dutilleux and Debussy.
