The new concert season of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra gets underway without fanfare or fireworks with a musical setting of the expression of farewell in Mahler’s native language: “Leb’ wohl!”. In his Ninth Symphony, Mahler could have dwelt on his impending death, but instead the work resonates with a passionate love of life and nature, embodying the composer’s quest to overcome despair with the help of his own inexhaustible creative power. May this power be contagious.
