In the 1970s, Arvo Pärt turned away from the use of modern compositional techniques and instead devoted himself to the study of medieval music, Gregorian chorale and Renaissance polyphony. After a creative hiatus of several years, he re-emerged in 1976 with a new musical technique, which he called tintinnabuli (bell). This is not only a musical style, but also an “ideology”. For the composer, it reflects a very personal and deep attitude to life, based on Christian values and the search for truth, beauty and purity. The selection of Pärt’s more recent compositions will be complemented by a new work by Damijan Močnik.
