When a men’s choir rings out, the space deepens, the air becomes denser and the sound gains weight. From the mystical softness of Duruflé’s Mass “Cum Jubilo” to Britten’s dramatic ballad narrative, from the ascetic purity of Poulenc’s prayers to two new works by Slovenian woman composers, the Slovenian Philharmonic Men’s Choir, conducted by Stephen Layton, will perform a programme that combines spiritual depth, dramatic narrative and contemporary creativity. The choir will reveal the broad expressive range of the male voice, while at the same time adding two new chapters to the Slovenian choral repertoire.
