The roots of the rich and distinctive tradition of Lithuanian vocal music reach back to the ancient sutartinės, multi-part ritual songs with cyclical rhythms and characteristic parallel voices. These songs still exemplify Lithuanian choral creativity today, which is being enhanced by contemporary composers with fresh compositional approaches. It is precisely this intertwining of the traditional and the contemporary that will be revealed to us at the first concert of the Mainly Vocal Programme subscription series by the State Chamber Choir Polifonija, which, like the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, is a member of the European Association of Professional Choirs TENSO.
