Reinhard Goebel, conductor
More than half of the compositions created by Johann Sebastian Bach were intended for the celebration of Protestant worship. Among them, it is the many cantatas that are the most outstanding. Due to the deep theological engagement of these works, which Bach expressed with a wide variety of symbols, many commentators referred the composer as the fifth evangelist. At the same time, his compositions were often labelled as old-fashioned, overly complicated and difficult to understand. Nonetheless, Bach’s music continues to convey us to the otherworldly even today.
