JULIAN RACHLIN, violin
CHRISTOPH ESCHENBACH, conductor
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
The extensive opus of the German Romantic Johannes Brahms contains just one violin concerto, which the composer dedicated to his good friend, the famous Hungarian violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim. Meanwhile, Joachim contributed a cadenza for the concerto. The soloist will be the internationally acclaimed Lithuanian violinist Julian Rachlin, who will be performing on a Stradivarius from 1704. This virtuoso with a big heart, as he is described by the media, studied violin at a private music and art school in Vienna where he is now himself a teacher. He has trained as a conductor with famous names such as Mariss Jansons and Daniele Gatti. Rachlin has both accompanied as a violinist and conducted some of the most renowned orchestras and made recordings for prestigious labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical and Warner Classics. The concert will be rounded off by the romantic and youthful Adagio from Anton Lajovic and Symphony No. 5 in E Minor by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The man presiding over the performance with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra will be German pianist and conductor Christoph Eschenbach, considered one of the world’s best active conductors for his interpretations, in which he combines intellect with a unique emotional charge.
