All four compositions are associated with Vivaldi’s longstanding creative work in Venice, where he served as a violin teacher, conductor and composer at the Ospedale della Pietà.
This was one of four educational institutions for poor or orphaned children and it produced numerous superb musicians. Their concerts were the central events of Venetian musical life and Vivaldi created many concertos and sacred works for them.
