For the End of the Season / PC 6
Programme
Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra
Toby Thatcher, conductor
Sorin Crudu, oboe
Would you say that Dvořák and Strauss do not have much in common? Although they are both Romantic composers, their musical languages really are very different. Whereas Dvořák never denies the simplicity of his Czech musical roots in his works, Strauss tries to inspire and impress again and again with his extreme virtuosity and gallantry. They were certainly both superb masters of composition who enjoyed exceptional international fame and respect during their own lifetimes. Both composers are also known for creating two of the best known and most popular concertos: Dvořák for cello and Strauss for oboe. We will hear the latter performed by a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, the superb Sorin Crudu.
