The calm, meditative character of Arvo Pärt’s original and distinctive compositional style raises his music above everything worldly. Nevertheless, many of his works were created as commissions to mark special occasions. The Berliner Messe was thus written for the 90th German Catholic Days, a meeting of Catholic worshippers that took place in Berlin in 1990. In 2025, the composer celebrates his 90th birthday. The Slovenian Philharmonic join in paying tribute to the Estonian composer by performing the Berliner Messe alongside Mozart’s Requiem.
