Contemporary Italian composer and conductor Lorenzo Donati has conceived of the programme as an encounter between contrasting forms of musical expression with common spiritual and emotional substance. The two guiding ideas, “Wash away all my iniquity” and “Create in me a pure heart”, both taken from Psalm 51, point to the essence of man’s struggle with his own selfishness. The result is a wonderful selection of diverse choral music, ancient and modern. This is a concert that encourages us to look within ourselves.
