Stephen Layton
New Principal Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir
Dear visitors and music lovers,
It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as the Principal Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir. Since joining this exceptional ensemble of singers, I have been continually inspired by their dedication, passion and talent. Leading a choir of such calibre is a privilege and an honour for any conductor.
The upcoming season, which I have designed in collaboration with Artistic Director Gregor Klančič, will see me conduct five of the eleven concerts. The programme will feature works by renowned Slovenian composers from across the ages, from Gallus to the present day, and a selection of international choral repertoire.
Of particular note is the inclusion of works by Arvo Pärt, one of the world’s most significant contemporary composers, who celebrates his 90th birthday in 2025. I am confident that his meditative and spiritual music will resonate deeply with you.
I look forward to working with you, dear friends of music. In the coming months, we will explore the rich world of choral music together, creating unforgettable musical moments. I promise to share my knowledge and experience with you, and to strive to present the full diversity and power of choral singing.
Singing is good for you, good for your soul, and good for your community. I therefore invite you to join us at our concerts and to immerse yourselves in the magic of choral music.
I eagerly await our first encounter!
Warm regards,
Stephen Layton
